Algarve the southern most province of Portugal and the best known in Europe for its beautiful beaches and picturesque villages and towns. We spent 3 furious days visiting Algarve with our friends Guilhermina and Zé.
Guilhermina and Zé are long lost friends from Angola. Guilhermina boarded in the same school as Filomena in Nova Lisboa (now Huambo). Zé lived and studied in the same city as I did, played basketball against me (I won every time…sorry Zé, but I can’t lie), served in the army in the same regiment in Sá da Bandeira (now Lubango) and during the war was in Mavinga in the same company only one year earlier.
With the troubles in Angola (1974) we lost contact but thanks to the Internet and Google Earth we found each other again 25 years later.
In Algarve we spent 3 wonderful days with Guilhermina and Zé showing us almost the entire Algarve which is not difficult as the land area of Algarve (4.900 km2) is smaller than the area of Brisbane city (5,960 km2). I hope the police radars were not operational at that time because we had to exceed the speed limit just a little bit to be able to cover all the points Zé planned to show us.
In the next pages are a few photos to give an idea of what we did and how Algarve looks like in 2009.
