São Paulo has beautiful parks and immense green areas. We visited two parks close to Clara’s apartment: Trianon and Ibirapuera parks.

The park Tenente Siqueira Ramos (Trianon) in the Paulista avenue was inaugurated in 1892 with the opening of Avenida Paulista. The park got its name from the high-class social club named Trianon, that once stood where now stands the Museu de Arte de São Paulo.

In 1924, the park was donated to the city, and in 1931 it received its official and current name in honour of one of the heroes of the Revolt Movement of 1924, lieutenant António de Siqueira Ramos.

The Ibirapuera park in Vila Mariana was inaugurated in 1954 for the 400th anniversary of the city, with buildings designed by famous architect Oscar Niemeyer. It has a large area for leisure, with museums ( Museu de Arte Moderna, Museu Afro-Brasileiro), the OCA Auditorium and a music hall.

We also visited a place that is a mixture of park, garden and shopping centre called Cidade Jardim (Garden City). As a shopping centre it is one of the nicest we have seen. An indoor tropical garden frames the verandas where the shops are. The top floor allows the most beautiful views of São Paulo.
