Pontal do Sul is the place where my relatives reside and where I spend some time every year enjoying the company of my parents and sister in law. When we manage to coordinate our schedules, which didn’t happen this time, I see my little brother as well.

Pontal do Sul is one the Balneários (this is how the Brazilians call the seaside resorts) of the Pontal do Paraná coast and at the same time the ferry terminal for the famous Ilha do Mel (Honey Island). The main users of the Pontal beaches are people from Curitiba and Paranaguá and as a result, outside the summer season and with exception of the weekends, the place is practically empty.

In short the place can be described as a group of beach houses most of the time empty, parking lots for the visitors to Ilha do Mel, one village with lots of poorly maintained houses, unpaved roads and a main road with some businesses and restaurants.

Unfortunately Pontal do Sul cannot be considered a very attractive place with the exception of the beaches and a quiet and relatively safe environment when compared with some other places in Brazil and obviously because it is the place where my relatives live.

My stay in Pontal is limited to long periods talking to my parents because they do not enjoy travelling much now. My father is with a respectable 92 years of age and my Mother 88. This time we spent three days in Florianópolis, met the relatives that live in the area and enjoyed some meals at the local restaurants.

My mother cooked all the meals I liked in my young age and in the same quantity. Mothers and Fathers never accept that their kids grow up and change their habits and as a result of that we had lots of leftovers meals because I don’t eat as much as I did when I was young. I say that with some authority because the same happens to me in relation to my little girls.

I had some short trips to Curitiba, Morretos, Matinhos (where I have family and friends), Guaratuba and Ilha do Mel and you can see some images in other pages of this site. I tried the beach and on the first day the water was beautiful but the weather changed and I never had the courage to try it again.
