We Angolans must be proud of what is being done in Angola to repair the destruction caused by 30 years of war. I am not aware of similar movement in Africa.

Unfortunately history shows Africa in a state of decay, from the colonial times. The so called colonial structures were destroyed in an "orgy of nationalism", but they have not been replaced with new structures providing equivalent services to the people in the name of whom they have been destroyed.

Many "White Elephantes" have been constructed instead, normaly to satisfy the egos of the new elites and Angola, unfortunately, is not an exception in this area. However we are seeing now a real effort to rebuild the country. Kuito, Huambo are examples that I know, most likely the same is happening all over Angola but I am not aware of any others.

The previous page of Silva Porto during the colonial times was created some 20 years ago when I started this website. The next pages show the destruction caused by the war and the rebuilding effort so far. These photos have been given to me by my friend Cagi that played a part in the start of the reconstruction.
