A very sad event occurred in this quarter. Although we expected to have bad news about the health of my father, nothing prepares you for it, when the news sudden arrives.
My father was going to be 95 in October but had not been well for the last two years. He passed away peacefully on August 28th, with my mother on his side in Curitiba, Brazil. Due to my previous professional commitments and the distance involved, I was not able to attend the funeral.
My family in Brazil and in particular my sister in law and brother provided the support my mother needed in such a trying time. I organised my trip to Brazil for January 2019 and stay for a month supporting my mother.
During the quarter the main activity areas were as follows:
• Daniela`s performance on the Lion King play and we attended the 90th birthday of our friend Owen Moorhouse.
• The visit of our friends Frias dos Santos to commemorate Miguel`s 50th birthday
• The conclusion of Stage II of the Endeavour Foundation project, the main reason why I could not travel to Brazil when my father passed away.
• Two trips to Tasmania; one to look after our granddaughters when Rita had to go to Western Australia on business and to attend the usual Xmas celebrations.
• The visit of our school friend from Angola, Ana Maria Ventura.
Um triste acontecimento ocurreu durante o trimester. Ainda que estivessemos a contar, a qualquer hora, com más noticias acerca da saúde do meu Pai, nada nos prepara para quando de repente a noticia chega.
O meu Pai ia fazer 95 anos em Outubro mas não estava a passar bem nos últimos dois anos. Ele faleceu tranquilamente no dia 28 em Agosto, com a minha mão ao seu lado em Curitiba, no Brasil. Devido aos meus compromissos profissionais e à distância que nos separava, não foi possível eu atender ao funeral.
A minha familia no Brasil e em particular a minha cunhada e irmão suportaram a minha Mãe durante aqueles tempos difíceis. Eu organizei a minha viajem para o Brasil em Janeiro de 2019 e passei um mês com a minha Mãe.
Durante o trimestre estas foram as actividades principais:
• A Daniela fez parte de uma peça de teatro chamada O Rei Leão e participámos na festa dos 90 anos do nosso amigo Owen Moorhouse.
• Os nossos amigos Frias dos Santos visitaram-nos para comemorar os 50 anos do Miguel
• A conclusão do Estágio II do projecto do Endeavour Foundation, a razão principal porque não pude ir ao funeral do meu Pai.
• Duas viagens à Tasmania: Uma para tomar conta das nossas netas quando a Rita teve de ir em serviço à Western Australia e para as usuais festividades do Natal.
• A visita da nossa amiga de escola em Angola, Ana Maria Ventura
