One thing that catches your attention as you drive through Roma is the fact that the streets are lined with bottle trees. When I asked one of the property managers what were the attractions of the town she told me: The Big Bottle Tree!!! The reason for the bottle trees is explained in the War Memorial in town: On the 20th of September 1918, the people of the Roma district gathered to pay tribute to their sons who fell in WWI. In their honour, a bottle tree was planted for each soldier as a living memorial to their duty to the nation. The main avenue shown in the photo is one of the many streets lined with bottle trees; altogether 140 bottle trees.
