One enters the museum through the Yampai gate (protective gate on the outside ) with its winding dragons which were supposed to protect the palace against enemies. The next are 3 Open Gates without doors to be used to enter the palace proper; The Khaan with his close advisers and I suppose his wife as well, entered by the centre gate. The other high officers entered through the East gate and the rabble through the West gate. The fifth gate, Andi Men (Peace Gate) was built around 1912 to commemorate the coronation of the monarch. The main characteristics of this gate is that it does not use one single nail.
