We went to Tasmania to attend the funeral of our old friend Américo Conceição that took place in Devonport. On the way we stopped at Campbell Town, half way between Hobart and Launceston. A statue in memory of Eliza Forlone. In 1820s Eliza walked 1500 km throughout Saxony in Germany (Sachen) buying the best merino sheep. She brought out a flock of these prize sheep to Van Diemen's Land (then the name of Tasmania) and started a very successful property at Kenihwort, near Campbel Town. Many of the sheep of Tasmania today are descended from her flock.
